Today, we will be counting down to the top 5 gospel songs of all time. These are songs that are ever new and fresh and still touch lives. These are songs that reigned during their time and are still reigning. They are not necessarily the best songs of all time but many new gospel songs are yet to touch the spot these songs touched and are still touching. They are -

5. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE by MercyMe



"I Can Only Imagine" (sometimes shortened to "Imagine") is a single recorded by Christian rock band MercyMe. Written and composed by Bart Millard, the song, based around a main piano track, was inspired by the death of Millard's father and considers what it would be like in Heaven and to be standing before God. The song was first issued as a track on MercyMe's 1999 album The Worship Project, which was released on an independent record label. The song was re-recorded and included on their 2001 major-label debut album Almost There as the fifth song on the album. It charted on several formats, including the Billboard Adult Contemporary (where it peaked at No. 5) and the Hot 100 (where it peaked at No. 71). In 2002, "I Can Only Imagine" earned the Dove Awards for 'Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year' and 'Song of the Year'; Millard earned the Dove Award 'Songwriter of the Year' at the same ceremony. The song has been certified 2x platinum RIAA for sales of over two million digital downloads, and is the first (and so far only) Christian single to reach that milestone. 4. GREATEST LOVE OF ALL by Whitney Houston



This song was originally wiritter by Micheal Masser and Linda Creed who suffered from breast cancer at the time she was writing it. It was originaly recorded by George Benson but was revived by whitney houston in 1985 and on May 17, 1986, it went to #1 for the first of three weeks. The song has touched hearts following the background story and the original writer and most importantly, the inspiration behind the song.

3. HE TOUCHED ME by New Gather Vocal Band



 The Gaither Vocal Band is an American southern gospel vocal group, named after its founder and leader Bill Gaither. As of February 2014, it consists of David Phelps, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb, Todd Suttles, and Bill Gaither. Although the group started out recording contemporary Christian music in the 1980s, it became known for southern gospel after the popularity of the Gaither Homecoming videos. Their song, "He Touched Me" was covered by Elvis Presley, after which he even named his album He Touched Me. Presley won a Grammy for the album. The song is popular for its deep and very spiritual lyrics that creates a moment of connection back to God.

2. I LOOK TO YOU by Whitney Houston




"I Look to You" is a pop-soul song performed by American recording artist Whitney Houston, from her seventh studio album of the same name. It was released as a worldwide promotional single and as the first US single from the album on July 23, 2009 on US radio following highly favorable reviews at pre-release album listening parties.The single is one of two songs written by R. Kelly which appear on the album and was produced by Emanuel Kiriakou, Tricky Stewart and Harvey Mason, Jr.. Following its preview on US radio the single was released fully for airplay on July 27, 2009. On July 30, just one week after its premiere (and 3 days after its promotional release) the song reached number 19 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Chart, becoming her 30th top 20 hit. The song has since become her highest charting single in the United States in nine years, charting at #70. On February 18, 2012, R. Kelly (who wrote "I Look to You") performed the song at Houston's homegoing at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. The service was broadcast and streamed live to a worldwide audience. The video for "I Look to You" premiered on September 10, 2009 on Whitney Houston's official website and on Entertainment Tonight. The video, also directed by Melina Matsoukas, features the singer in front of a plain beige and gray backdrop with different angles of her. She is sitting on an applebox with a spotlight focused on her. Toward the end of the video, a shower of flowers are shown falling all around her. Houston is wearing a white dress in mood of the beige and grey background. The significance of the number was her humbleness to the Lord.

1. I PLEDGE ALLEIGANCE by Ray Boltz



 Raymond H. "Ray" Boltz (born in June 1953) is a singer and songwriter who first came to wide notice in contemporary Christian music. Many of his songs tell stories of faith and inspiration. His song "I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb" also won a Dove Award for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year at the 25th GMA Dove Awards in 1994. Though Ray Boltz affirmed in 2009 that he was gay, his song which he released, perhaps before he submitted to gayism, still touches lives all over the world.
