Image result for have you dropped those things as a christian?

My pastor said something on one of these Sundays that really got to me. He said that there are many people who fail to drop some things belonging to the old man – the old creature – the old person when they become Christians. He said, for example, a new convert who has decided to surrender his or her life to Christ may decide not to drop some of his old behaviours. A good example is ‘anger’. He might say to himself,

‘This anger may still be very useful to me later on so I will keep it because someone like Kemi might still get on my nerves’

This is the absolute attitude of many Christians today and that’s why we hear people of the world say,
   ‘And they call themselves Christians’

In actual fact, so many people have been drawn away from Christianity because of the attitude of many Christians who have refused to totally surrender and drop the old man totally. When Jesus died on the cross and washed away our sins, he did it absolutely and totally. He therefore expects us to come into Him in absolute totality and not in partiality.

2Corinthians 5 vs. 17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

When you are born again, there are so many things the Holy Spirit will convict you of. You won’t need a pastor or church to tell you to drop some things both physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually etc before you realize that God doesn’t appreciate such lifestyle.

Isaiah 43 vs. 18

"Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past.

The end note is a question – Have you dropped those things? I was speaking with a lady some weeks ago and she told me of her mother who is a fervent Christian and a deaconess in a very reputable church in Nigeria, yet she is very hot – tempered and due to some circumstances surrounding her child’s birth, she created a great dislike for that child and even made other people want to dislike her. Yet, she is a Pastor.

Ezekiel 36 vs. 36

"Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

This is not a matter of judging but as a Christian, we have to be totally separate and different and drop certain unwanted lifestyles such as anger, hatred, bitterness, unforgiveness, malice etc. It could happen that we didn’t carry these attitudes intentionally but waiting and believing God, we can drop them and be new persons. May God help us all in Jesus Name.

Romans 6 vs. 4

We therefore were buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.
